MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WXIX) — An early morning house fire in Middletown sent a woman to the hospital with smoke inhalation, according to fire officials.

Firefighters responded to a home in the 1700 block of Manchester Avenue shortly before 5 a.m. Thursday, according to Captain Shane Owens.

Homeowner Michael Don Stacey said the woman taken to Atrium Medical Center is his sister and is expected to be OK.

He said he lives in the house with his sister and mother.

Her mother, Mary King, said she has five cats and two dogs, and that while some of the dogs and cats are doing fine, the whereabouts of at least two of the cats are unknown.

Stacey said the fire was electrical and started in a bedroom on the side of the house.

The fire chief said he could not yet confirm that information.

Earlier, firefighters had asked dispatchers to call Duke Energy to come “immediately” because power lines were down, according to initial emergency communications reports.

No estimate of the damage has been made public.

Captain Owens said Manchester Avenue will remain closed for a while longer.

Fire departments from nearby Monroe and Franklin assisted Middletown at the scene.
