The head of the World Health Organization on Saturday called for an end to attacks on medical workers and facilities in Sudan, after a drone attack on a hospital in Sudan's North Darfur region killed more than 70 people and injured dozens.

“As the only functioning hospital in El Fasher, the Saudi Teaching Hospital provides services including obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, surgery and pediatrics, in addition to a nutritional stability centre,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus posted on X did. Friday strike.

“We continue to call for an end to all attacks on health care in Sudan and to allow full access for the rapid recovery of damaged facilities,” Tedros said.

The war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) broke out in April 2023 due to a dispute over the integration of both armies, killing tens of thousands of people, displacing millions, and leaving half the population fell into starvation. .

The conflict has sparked a wave of ethnic violence, largely blamed on the RSF, and created a humanitarian crisis.

Darfur governor Mini Minnawi said on X that RSF drones attacked the emergency department of a hospital in the capital of North Darfur state, killing patients including women and children.

In El Fasher, violent clashes broke out between the RSF and the Sudanese Joint Forces, which includes the army, armed resistance groups, police, and local defense forces.
