In the context of strengthening country- and facility-level HAI surveillance as a core element of infection prevention and control (IPC) programmes, WHO has announced new guidelines for HAI surveillance, including new simplified and validated case definitions. We publish a practical handbook. The primary purpose of this handbook is to provide comprehensive guidance on the objectives, key concepts, principles, methods, and best practices of HAI surveillance, and to help policy makers, IPC and surveillance professionals effectively measure burden. to enable the design and implementation of effective monitoring systems.
