PORT ARTHUR, Texas — A 63-year-old woman was sent to the hospital after a fire broke out at a home in Port Arthur.

The fire broke out at a home in the 2800 block of 90th Street just after 3 p.m., according to Port Arthur Interim Deputy Fire Chief Antonio Mitchell.

The woman was bedridden and downstairs in the living room, Mitchell said.

She suffered respiratory damage, minor bruising and smoke inhalation.

A Port Arthur Fire Department captain said firefighters were able to remove the woman from the home before breaking down the front door and putting out the flames.

Mitchell said smoke was already present when firefighters arrived at the home.
