A man accused of attempting to murder a nurse last month has made his second appearance in court.
The defendant, 37-year-old Romon Haque, of Yasmin Gardens, Royton, Oldham, appeared at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court today for a pre-trial preparation hearing.
He is accused of the attempted murder of Achamma Cherian, a nurse working at the Royal Oldham Hospital, on the night of 11 January.
Ms Cherian, who is understood to have worked as a nurse for more than 20 years, was admitted to hospital after, it was alleged, she was stabbed with a pair of scissors.
Haque was arrested shortly after the incident, and was subsequently charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.
The 37-year-old appeared in court today via video link from HMP Manchester. Haque has been in custody since his arrest last month.
He spoke to confirm the spelling of his name, which was previously reported by police and other media as “Roman” and “Rumon”, and his age.
Haque did not enter a plea today, and presiding judge Maurice Greene told him that he would appear back in court on 10 April.
Should Haque enter a not guilty plea, a trial for the case is scheduled to begin on 14 July.
The judge adjourned the hearing and remanded Haque in custody.
