The World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with the African Evidence Network (AEN) and Cochrane, is launching a Community of Practice (CoP) on public engagement in evidence-based decision-making in health (CE-EIDM) . The first virtual meeting will be held on November 6, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm (CET).

This CoP aims to strengthen the role of public engagement in shaping health policy and address gaps in the field of evidence-based decision-making, where research evidence is often prioritized over public opinion. I am. Through this initiative, WHO and its partners aim to create a collaborative space for CoP participants to strengthen their capacity to foster public engagement in health and health-related policy processes.

This virtual event will feature Sandy Oliver, co-director of the Center for Policy and Practice Information at the UCL Institute for Social Research, who will discuss evidence-based policymaking as a comprehensive approach – cutting-edge debates and discussion of trends. A presentation will be held. Participants will also be introduced to the goals of the CoP, develop a shared vision, and discuss next steps.

This conference is open to all and we encourage professionals working or interested in public engagement and evidence-based decision-making to join this important effort.

The agenda for the first meeting is available here. Use this link to register for the meeting by November 1, 2024.

For more information about the CoP, please contact the WHO team at EIDM@who.int.
