Cassidy proposes bipartisan bill to strengthen healthcare cybersecurity

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-Louisiana) on November 21 will require the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to collaborate on improving cybersecurity in healthcare across the country. He led a bipartisan bill. and the public health sector.

“Cyberattacks against our nation's health care sector not only put patients' sensitive medical data at risk, they can also delay life-saving medical care,” said Senator Cassidy. “This bipartisan legislation will help healthcare organizations protect Americans' health data from growing cyber threats.”

Sen. Cassidy joined forces with three original co-sponsors, including Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH), as part of the Senate's bipartisan Healthcare Cybersecurity Task Force, which was launched last year. Sponsored the Cybersecurity and Resilience Act (S. 5390).

“Our bipartisan working group came together to develop this bill based on the most pressing needs of healthcare providers and patients, and I urge my colleagues to support this bill.” said Senator Hassan.

If passed, S.5390 would provide grants to health agencies to improve cyberattack prevention and response and provide training on cybersecurity best practices to health agencies, according to a bill summary submitted by lawmakers. I will do it.

Additionally, the measure would provide local clinics and other health care providers with best practices for cybersecurity breach prevention, resiliency, and coordination with federal agencies.

S. 5390 also modernizes current regulations to help entities covered by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act take advantage of cybersecurity best practices, and, among other provisions, The summary states that the law requires companies to develop and implement cybersecurity incident response plans.
