Prime Healthcare, a California-based national healthcare system, said it has acquired eight Chicago Regional Hospitals.
The national system also said it will take over several senior living and care facilities in Chicago and surrounding suburbs.
Prime Healthcare has pledged to invest millions of dollars in improving and upgrading facilities.
The California-based healthcare company has officially acquired eight hospitals and several senior living and care facilities in the Chicago area.
Prime Healthcare, which already operates hospitals and other facilities in 14 states, announced its acquisition on Saturday.

The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approved the acquisition after an extensive review process.
After taking over hospitals and other facilities in the Chicago area, Prime Healthcare currently operates 51 hospitals, more than 360 outpatient locations, and oversees nearly 57,000 employees and associated physicians.
The system promoted healthcare and proven rankings to turn around financially struggling hospitals.
Prime Healthcare said it had offered employment offers to virtually all associates at the acquired Chicago area facility. The company also said it is committed to $250 million to facility upgrades, capital improvements and technology and systems upgrades.

Prime Healthcare will also take over several home sanitation and advanced living facilities.
The system also said it would maintain a partnership between the charity care program and the hospital's Catholic Church.

Local officials praised major healthcare contracts to take over hospitals and facilities in Chicago.
“This transition will be a major moment in our community, and I want to make it clear. We don't compromise on the quality of care our residents rely on,” Chicago Aldo said. Daniel La Spata (1st District) in a statement. “Prime Healthcare is committed to not only maintaining and enhancing our services at Saint Mary Hospital, ensuring that our neighborhoods continue to have access to the highest levels of healthcare.”
State Sen. Eva Dina Delgado (D-Chicago) also praised the acquisition.
“This acquisition represents the opportunity for our community to benefit from our key health care commitment to caring, high quality care,” Delgado said.
