Columbia, South Carolina (WACH) – The woman is faced in prison for up to 15 years, as she is allegedly stole over $10,000 from nursing home residents.
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has charged Shana V. Brown, 43, with exploitation of a vulnerable adult and a violation of trust with fraudulent intent.
The victim was a resident of White Oak Manor in Columbia, South Carolina, and was suspected of fraud.
Authorities allege Brown, who held powers of attorney for the victim, misused the victim's funds and assets for her own benefit.
Brown is accused of converting more than $10,000 of the victim's assets for personal use.
White Oak Manor introduced the incident to vulnerable adults and Medicaid Provider Scam (VAMPF) units and worked with other authorities to conduct an investigation.
VAMPF is responsible for investigating Medicaid provider fraud, abuse, and the negligence of any environment of Medicaid beneficiaries. Abuse, neglect, exploitation, exploitation of individuals living in nursing homes and nursing homes.
Exploitation of vulnerable adults is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $5,000, or both.
Violation of trust, including $10,000 or more, is also a felony, and upon conviction, will be subject to a prison or fine of up to 10 years at court's discretion.
