She had already been working the role on an interim basis since January 2024.
Before that, Ms Daniel had been deputy director of nursing at Hywel Dda since May 2023 and was previously an assistant director of nursing from 2015.
The health board described Ms Daniel as a “well-known and well-respected leader” who had “dedicated her entire professional career to healthcare in the Hywel Dda region”.
Qualifying as an adult nurse in 1990, Ms Daniel’s career has spanned clinical, academic and managerial roles.
Before joining Hywel Dda, she spent 10 years at NHS Wales as a senior nurse in infection prevention and control.
Commenting on her appointment, Ms Daniel said: “Hywel Dda is home to me.
“My family and I are part of the population, and I have worked within healthcare here since I finished my formal training.
“I’m incredibly proud to lead such a dedicated and passionate nursing workforce and I’m excited to work with colleagues to celebrate our achievements and build on them as we look to the future.
“Together, we’ll explore opportunities for interprofessional team working to help deliver our clinical strategy and the very best care for our communities.”
Professor Phil Kloer, Hywel Dda chief executive, said he was “delighted” to see Ms Daniel appointed to the nursing director role substantively.
He added: “Sharon has demonstrated outstanding commitment and leadership throughout her career with Hywel Dda.
“Her passion for nursing, deep knowledge of our services and genuine connection to the people we serve make her an exceptional choice for this role.”
