Lexington, Ky. (April 29, 2025) – UK Healthcare/Norton Healthcare – Stroke Care Network (SCN) announces the addition of hospitals, bringing the total network to 41 affiliates. Russell County Hospital is the latest member of SCN and supports its goal of optimizing access to high-quality stroke care across the state. Russell County Hospital is a 25-bed critical access hospital in Russell Springs.

“We are excited and fortunate to have the opportunity to become a member of the UK Healthcare/Norton Healthcare Stroke Care Network. Many members of the Russell County team have dedicated their time, talent and resources to showcase the finish line. “This membership puts us in a position to provide the highest level of care to our patients and to put our physicians and clinical staff in a successful position.

Stroke Care Network Services is designed to help hospitals deliver the highest quality stroke-related clinical care. This mission is supported through a comprehensive educational programme for providers, staff and community members, as well as robust, continuous quality improvement.

Kentucky is one of the highest stroke-related mortality rates in the country, with more than 2,000 Kentucky deaths each year from stroke or stroke-related complications. Larry B. Goldstein, Maryland, medical director of the Stroke Care Network, says that if more hospitals continue to participate in the network, it will contribute to the growth of the care system across the state, improving stroke prevention and emergency care, and leading to the best possible outcomes for those who have experienced the stroke.

“SCN is extremely successful and has been extremely successful because it supports stroke care, provides up-to-date information on stroke-related approaches and latest treatment approaches and tools to enhance stroke prevention and acute response, provides stroke-related specialist education and stroke-related specialist education.

Network Affiliation aims to optimize stroke prevention with access to public education and interactive stroke risk assessment tools, in addition to stroke symptoms and the need for rapid response. This collaboration supports the mutual mission of all people involved in bringing patients as close to their homes as possible.
