(WIFR) – The National Rural Health Association is holding a meeting to discuss the challenges of providing healthcare to rural communities.
Healthcare leaders discussed workforce initiatives to recruit and retain healthcare providers in rural areas. US Senate Democrat Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) secures $1 billion in American rescue plan for scholarships and loan repayment awards to bring more clinicians into shortage fields I did.
The Rural Hospital Closure Relief Act was also introduced, allowing local hospitals to qualify for financial assistance to continue to provide affordable services to their communities.
Reports show that over 135 rural hospitals have been closed in the past 12 years, with 400 people facing the risk of closures. About 50% of rural hospitals discovered operating losses last year.
