Two Staten Island health care workers recognized for extraordinary accomplishments

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Two Staten Island health care workers were recognized for their work in local nursing homes at the third annual Post-Acute Care Nursing Awards.

NYC Health + Hospitals recognizes the work of nursing professionals at five long-term care facilities and recognized 10 individuals. Five people received the DAISY award and five received the Being Exceptional Everyday (BEE) award.

The DAISY Award is sponsored by the DAISY Foundation and is presented to a nurse or nurse-led team who has mastered person-centered care and demonstrated skills of integrity, compassion, and collaboration.

The BEE award is given to those in supportive nursing roles who have demonstrated maximum effort, including certified nursing assistants, patient care technicians, patient care associates, and medical-surgical technicians.

Winners were nominated by residents, families, and staff who shared stories about their daily interactions with health care workers.

Angelica Santos, RN, received the DAISY Award for her outstanding work. Meanwhile, PCT's Maria Catano received a BEE award for her efforts in this field. Both work at NYC Health + Hospitals' Sea View location.

“Our nurses and certified nursing assistants represent all that is good and kind in the world,” said Khoi Luong, DO, senior vice president of post-acute care at NYC Health + Hospitals. . “We award them the DAISY Award and the BEE Award for the extraordinary dedication and compassion they show every day. A tribute to hard work, resilience and unwavering commitment.”

The other eight award recipients work at NYC Health + Hospitals' Carter, Kohler, Gouverneur and McKinney locations.

The following people received the DAISY Award: Linda Robasson, RN (Carter); Cufun Lai, RN (Coler); Evelyn Avilles, RN (Gouverneur); and Sharlyn Peters, RN (McKinney).

Healthcare professionals receiving BEE awards include Petrona Alexander, MST (Carter); Windale Palmer, MST (Coler); Myrtle Benn, PCT (Gouverneur); and Naromie Paul, PCT (McKinney).
