WASHINGTON — Newly empowered Republican leadership in the White House and Congress is likely to bring good news and bad news for the health care industry.

It's unclear which side of the Republican wave that brought President-elect Trump to power will prevail on health care policy. These include the traditional conservative, pro-business, anti-regulation, pro-tax approach, or the populist approach utilized by the Republican Party. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. distrusts the system and seeks to blame large corporations, including Big Pharma, for Americans' poor health.

When the Affordable Care Act subsidies passed by Democrats expire, insurance companies could be squeezed and people forced out of the market. And if Republicans turn to cutting Medicaid to fund other priorities, hospitals could end up with even more uninsured patients.
