MONTGOMERY, Alabama (WAKA) — U.S. Congressman Chomari figures met with constituents at Montgomery's City Hall Tuesday night, where they discussed priorities such as health care, infrastructure and economic development.
The meeting, held at the Resurrected Catholic School Gym, brought together dozens of people from two districts that have been represented since winning the November election after the parliamentary boundaries were redrawn.
The event was temporarily confused when a woman who opposed the war in Gaza made a scream and gesture while talking to members when the meeting ended.
The numbers highlighted that expanding access to healthcare remains at the top of his agenda, referring to the financial struggles of rural hospitals in Alabama. He said 52 rural hospitals remain open throughout the state, but 26 are at risk of closure. 22 faces an immediate threat of closure.
“When rural hospitals in nearby counties approach, especially here in Montgomery, these patients will get flooded here and there and are not capable of taking that amount,” the figures said. “We are trying to amend that through the Rural Hospital Stabilization Act.”
He also highlighted the need to strengthen infrastructure to support new industries, citing the expansion of mobile ports and continued investments at Montgomery's inland ports. The figures say improvements to East and West travel corridors are particularly important for efficient movement of goods across the state.
Additionally, the diagram highlighted his support for the Water Resources Development Act, which aimed to improve Alabama's river system, and said it played a role in preventing the closure of Montgomery's Employment Corps Center.
