CHARLOTTE — It’s a win-win: Every Channel 9 viewer can get a new home for $100, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will raise millions of dollars for its mission to save children’s lives and support families.
We will be collaborating on the 11th annual St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway, which will air for the first time on Channel 9 in 2025.
Crews broke ground Thursday in Marshville, where Newton Custom Homes & Realty and DeRose Construction will complete the new home and give it away to one lucky viewer.
Tickets will go on sale in April, with only 23,000 available, priced at $100 each. A special show will premiere on Channel 9 in June, with houses and other prizes being given away live.
Jeff Newton found his calling early in his custom home business.
“One day I got an email from St. Jude and I thought it was spam,” said Newton, owner of Newton Custom Homes & Realty. “When I saw it was real, I was like, ‘I’m in it, what do I do?'”
Newton is building his 10th home for free for the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway.
This nationwide program has raised millions of dollars by raffling local homes in more than 40 cities.
Every dollar spent goes to an important cause: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a leader in treating and overcoming childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Families never receive a bill when their child is treated at St. Jude, and St. Jude also helps with transportation, housing and food, so families can focus on helping their child at its flagship hospital in Memphis.
St. Jude has also invented treatments that have improved the overall survival rate for childhood cancer from 20 percent when the hospital opened in 1962 to more than 80 percent today.
One of the reasons St. Jude Hospital is so effective at helping families is because a large portion of its funding comes from private donations.
For Newton and his new business partner, Lindsay Dever, Thursday’s first shoveling marked the culmination of a decade of passion.
Tune in to Channel 9 for updates on the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway and hear stories of families who have been helped.
