Single payer bids stall when the industry boosts Beacon Hill

Re: “Healthcare Giant Brings Beacon Hill Politicians” (State Secrets, Page A1, July 10): Thank you to investigators Matt Stout, Samantha J. Gross and Nina Hagen.

This article suggests that many believe it is uncontroversial. It suggests that there is financial incentives and pressure behind opposition among state lawmakers towards the single payer health care system, the best solution to the federal health care crisis.

Current Medicare for everyone in Massachusetts saves millions of people in healthcare costs at all levels for government, businesses and individuals, and removes financial barriers for access to healthcare. Last month's hearing detailed the benefits of the law and the suffering caused by the current system. An updated version of the bill has died in the Joint Committee on Healthcare Finance for the past few sessions. This session should be different given the crisis of medical costs and Medicaid cuts.

Countering the massive impact of the healthcare and insurance industry is a challenging battle. We urge the world to investigate the benefits of single payer solutions and opposition to the bill. Your coverage will help ensure that your single payer system is ultimately considered seriously.
