Otanwa, Iowa. – Residents of the Good Samaritan Association of Othamwa welcomed new companions on Thursday as part of the Furry Friends Project.
Twenty-eight residents adopted new pets and chose to stay in the facility between cats and dogs.
Robot pets exhibit natural behaviors such as flashing, tail swinging, and head movement, and can create bare, moo and puller.
Each adoption included an adoption certificate, a collar and tags for new furry friends.
“We've got a CMP funding grant, so we have 28 pets, 14 cats and 14 dogs. They'll be adopted by residents to recruit individually across the building.”
According to Stanford Health, research shows that robotic pet therapy can promote a sense of purpose and pleasure, providing meaningful and engaging activities for individuals with dementia.
