April Steinberg, the administrator of Troi Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, confirmed the incident with News Center 7 on Monday, February 24th.

Legionnaire's disease is a type of pneumonia that can become serious.

Trend Stories:

Breathing with small droplets of water containing bacteria can cause someone to get sick.

It does not come from person to person, but instead spreads from artificial water sources such as pipes, showers, and bathtubs.

According to Steinberg, residents are currently receiving treatment at the facility.

Troy Rehab brought in an independent laboratory group to test water throughout the facility and scan for bacteria.

“If found, we will take on a treatment plan to disinfect the system, kill Legionnaires and prevent more growth,” Steinberg said.

The facility has established several “best practices” to stop the spread and effectiveness of Legionnaires.

“This includes installing high-filtered water taps on a single affected nursing unit, and installing high-filtered shower heads throughout the facility. These equipment extract Legionnaires, drinking, bathing, cooking, and more. to make water safe,” Steinberg said.

The facility is in contact with the Ohio Department of Health and will continue to work together to protect everyone.

As reported previously by News Center 7, one Troy Rehab resident tested positive for Legionnaire, but Steinberg does not believe the incident is related.

We continue with this story.
