In the second quarter of 2025, USI Health Occupational Center Lifelong Learning will feature the following meetings and workshops designed to provide health professionals with essential continuing education and professional development opportunities across the field. Provided.

Nursing Leadership Meeting – April 2nd

Southern Indiana University welcomes Elizabeth Rudolph, JD, MSN, RN and PLNC of Memphis, Tennessee as presenters of the keynote starting at the 22nd Annual Nursing Leadership Conference. She gives two presentations. How to reduce your responsibility: For nursing instructors and SureFire Documentation Techniques for Nursing Teachers. She is a lawyer and nurse and founded Jurexnurse.com. Jurexnurse.com trains nurses and is certified as a professional legal nurse consultant. Rudolf received his degree in nursing and law from Vanderbilt University. She is a member of the Faculty of Nursing and has practiced law in Memphis for many years, in addition to being a prolific speaker and author on legal issues in nursing.

Healthcare Virtual Conference Research, Evidence-Based Practice, Performance Improvement – April 23rd

Rachel Stangrand, MSN, RN, CNOR, operating room and clinical education managers at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana, will be keynote speakers at USI's Virtual Research Council. Her topic covers emotional intelligence and its impact on healthcare success.

Following the keynote presentation, simultaneous podiums and poster sessions will be provided in a virtual environment to spread research in the field of healthcare, evidence-based practice, and performance improvements. Virtual participants will have the opportunity to learn about strategies to improve patient care and health care systems.

The outcome of the learners of this program is that health professionals prepare them to implement effective research and evidence-based healthcare strategies in their professional practice.

Empowering medical forensic practice: Trauma, teamwork, transformation – May 14th and 15th

The Indiana Sein Training Project, a program at the Southwest Indiana Indiana Regional Health Education Center, hosts a two-day meeting in Indianapolis, supporting and advancing the medical forensic practices of nurses and interdisciplinary teams. Through presentations by national experts, the event will cover patient care and professional collaboration, including neurobiology of trauma, strategies for effective teamwork in healthcare, and the psychological and social impacts of porn. Explore important topics that will affect you.

Additionally, participants will receive the latest practice updates related to Indiana Medical Forensic Nurses and their teams.

Speaker lineup:

Dr. Jim Hopper is an independent consultant and educational associate in psychology at Harvard Medical School. For over 30 years, his research, clinical and consulting work has focused on the psychological and biological effects of sexual assault and other trauma.

Renee Thompson, DNP, RN, FAAN and CSP are CEO and founder of the Healthy Workforce Institute. She works with healthcare providers to develop a workforce of professionals by dealing with bullying and indifference. In 2022, she was appointed as a fellow at the American Academy of Nursing for her job to eradicate destructive behavior in health care.

Russell and Myra Strand are co-owners of Strand Squared Solutions LLC (Strand²). Russell is a retired US Army CID Senior Federal Special Agent and Sexual Harassment and Assault Response and Prevention (Sharp) Program Manager. Maillustration, Massachusetts, California is Advanced, an advocacy diplomat and certified comprehensive victim intervention specialist at Strand².

Nancy Norton, RN, CHP (Certified Humor Professional) is an award-winning comedian and keynote speaker. Her presentation is based on evidence-based research on the benefits of therapeutic humor. She backs up anecdotal evidence with funny, fast-paced storytelling.

Alcohol and Drug Research Institute – May 21-23

The 42nd Annual Alcohol Drug Research Institute (IADS) focuses on current substance use disorders. Alcohol and drug trends; the role of trauma in addiction. The strategy of addiction counselors to promote recovery. Trends in the use and distribution of illegal drugs. And more! In addition to a variety of other topics, IADS also provides education on HIV, hepatitis C and ethics. This interprofessional conference provides practical tools and groundbreaking information related to successful intervention, rehabilitation and treatment.

Keynote speaker:

Dr. Cynthia Moreno Tuohy, former executive director of BSW, NCAC II, CDC III, SAP, NAADAC, SAP, and the Association of Addiction Professionals will give a presentation on dispute resolution on Wednesday.

Dr. Mita Johnson will talk about professional ethics on Thursday and on Friday the effects of medical professionals' use of marijuana and self-care.

Who should I attend?

Counselors, social workers, case managers, therapists, educators, nurses, personnel directors, corrections, and other health professionals interested in the issue of alcohol and substance use disorders, and all addictions.

The USI Center for Health Professionals Lifelong Learning is committed to providing quality and excellence in continuing education between professionals.
