What is public health nursing?
The public health nursing department is comprised of public health nurses who provide a variety of public health programs to the community. Public health nurses provide case management services for families with children with special health care needs through the Medically Handicapped Children Program, prenatal and newborn home visits with ongoing follow-up and parent education, and through schools. We provide contracted school health services. Community health screenings are being conducted throughout Richland County and provide an opportunity for individuals to have their blood sugar levels, blood pressure and cholesterol tested.
Our public health nurses are working with local health care providers and the Ohio Department of Health to control the outbreak. Richland Public Health also provides leadership in the area of emergency response related to biological or public health threats.
