PORTLAND ORLE (KPTV) – Hospitalists at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center voted unanimously to approve a temporary agreement with Providence Oregon announced by the Oregon Nurses Association on Saturday.
This follows a nearly 30-day strike by more than 70 hospital doctors and other medical professionals, represented by the Pacific Northwest Hospital Medical Association.
St. Vincent hospitalists formed a union in August 2023 through their local PNWHMA. This will be their first contract through the union, according to ONA. Hospitalists said the focus will be on patient safety, equity among provider groups and duties during negotiations.

Ona said hospitalists will continue to respect the Picket line as long as the St. Vincent nurses are still on strike.

ONA said the contract includes the following important provisions:
Staffing commitments: Implementing processes to manage large numbers of patients, including adding more provider teams and protecting hospitalist workplaces.Subcontractor Protection: A strong protection measure against subcontractors, ensuring Providence Providers remain central to patient care, and in rare cases there is extensive employment protection in subcontractor situations.Wage Increase: It will rise all the way over the next two years to ensure ratification bonuses and future adjustments.Enhanced Illness Time: Greatly improves illness time occurrence and usage policy, supporting hospitalists' health and work-life balance.
