Prime Healthcare has completed the acquisition of eight hospitals in Illinois, Illinois, USA from Ascension.

The agreement also includes doctor practices from the Great Chicago area and four senior living and post-acute care facilities.

Prime Healthcare signed an asset purchase agreement in July 2024 for the acquisition. The company has not disclosed the financial terms of the transaction.

Acute care hospitals currently under acquisition include Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, St. Mary's at Nazareth Hospital in Chicago, and St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.

Two of these hospitals, St. Mary's Hospital and St. Francis Hospital, will become part of the Prime Healthcare Foundation, a public charity of 501(c)(3).

The deal has expanded beyond hospitals and includes advanced residential facilities such as various acute, home hygiene, Heritage Village and Heritage Lodges, Revival Sites, Ascension in Illinois Homes and Rainbow Hospice.

The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board unanimously approved the acquisition after a thorough review.

Additionally, Prime Healthcare received approval from the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Vatican.

“We are pleased to announce that we are committed to providing a range of services to our customers,” said Sunny Battia, president and chief medical officer at Prime Healthcare. “Prime Healthcare can build on its legacy of welcoming these hospitals into an award-winning system and transforming healthcare and preserving access to life-saving services.”

Prime Healthcare provides employment to the majority of associates in the acquired facilities. The company has also pledged to invest $250 million in facility upgrades, capital improvements and technology enhancements.

Additionally, the business continues to offer charitable care programs and supports its commitment to serving vulnerable populations.

Through the acquisition, Chicagoland Hospitals and facilities are currently part of a healthcare system that includes 51 hospitals, over 10,500 license beds and more than 360 outpatients.

“Prime Healthcare acquires eight hospitals in Illinois from Ascension” was first created and published by Hospital Management, a globalData-owned brand.
