PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Pensacola VA held a resource event at the Joint Outpatient Care Center on Saturday, attracting 781 participants.
The event focused on healthcare enrollment, women's health, suicide prevention and toxic exposure screening.
Several local politicians and candidates were present to listen to the concerns of veterans. Among the attendees was Walt Biglienzon, a Vietnamese veteran and retired Navy and Coast Guard. He explained his reasons for attending.
“Mainly for my wife, one of her concerns when we get older… when you die, you have these benefits, but what am I going to do Is it? Where can I find the documents?” Bigglienzon said. “I'm retired so I'll do this in the Navy too. I'm a double dipper in that respect, so I can experience both. I can get my medicine from there, not here.”
During the event, 125 claims were processed, 30 toxic exposures were identified, 26 VA ID cards were issued, and 43 people were registered for benefits.
