CHESTER, Pa. (WJET/WFXP) – A Pennsylvania court has awarded 41 in unpaid wages and penalties after a Department of Labor (DOL) investigation found that 62 workers were intentionally underpaid for overtime. He was ordered to pay more than $4,000.
QualiT Healthcare LLC and its owner, Teejan Camara, are under investigation by the DOL Wage and Hour Division for possible violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and a court order has been issued in support of the findings.
Prior to the court order, Qualit Healthcare had already paid victims $198,591 in unpaid wages and $9,341 in restitution, and must now pay an additional $212,067 in unpaid wages and restitution. In addition to civil penalties, the total amount is $414,351.
“Care workers provide an essential service to those in need in our communities, and they deserve to be paid the full wages they earn,” said Philadelphia Wage and Hour Division District Director James Cain. ” he said. “Enforcement actions against employers like Qualit Healthcare help ensure that workers are paid as required by law and remind other employers of the importance of compliance. The agency, along with Camara, must pay a $5,649 civil penalty for what the DOL calls a willful violation.
