Diverville, Michigan (WLOX) – At D'Iberville, Parkinson's disease, who is fighting Parkinson's disease, is slipping his gloves and fighting back thanks to Saad Healthcare's Rock Steady Boxing Classes.
These fighters need to be warmed up before riding in a speed bag or heavy bag. This is how Parkinson's group exercises strength.
“Parkinson's disease can affect the nervous system and cause tremors and stiffness in the body. It's progressive and gets worse over time. Essentially, it lowers dopamine levels in your brain “We'll do that,” explains Maisa Hanson.
Hanson has been the boxing coach for the program at D'Iberville for eight months. She says this is an example of a generation that supports it.
“I'm calling her coach, 'It's okay coach!',” cried Ronald Burnett.
Burnett says the PD has significantly influenced his balance and strength. He and his wife Trezia agree that boxing doesn't just serve as an outlet for physical activity.
“It works with your hands, arms, eyes, and balance,” says Ronald. “And your brain,” Trezia jokes.
In addition to purifying these athletic abilities, another important aspect plays a role in training.
“We also try to implement it so that your voice is louder. Whenever you have Parkinsons, your voice gets low, speak quietly, they don't know,” Hanson says. Masu.
So Hanson provides numbers for the boxers to aim for, and each swing is counted loudly.
Despite the decades-long age gap between coaches and class, they say they are kneeling closely.
“We start to exercise and just be friends, and we start to think of each other as family,” says Barnett.
“We're like friends,” adds Hanson. “I see them almost every day, we form a relationship. It's so personal and I love it.”
This group meets three times a week on various workout plans and, as Barnett says, is a common goal of powering through Parkinson's symptoms.
Saad Home, Hospice and Healthcare also offer boxing classes to Alabama Mobile patients.
