Over 1 Million Medical Devices Published Online and Uncovering Private Patient Scans – Health-ISAC-Health Information Sharing and Analytical Centre
The digital expansion of the healthcare industry may be exposed to more than it protects. If a stranger online looked at your MRI scan and knew your diagnosis, how would you feel, perhaps even before you did?
It's not a hypothesis, it's already happening.
New research from Modat Over 1.2 million internet-connected healthcare devices and systems show that they are being published online through basic security wraps that leak personal patient data (from brain scans to blood tests).
Health-ISAC Chief Security Officer, Errol Weiss added: “The findings from Moderne highlight the important and broad challenges facing healthcare globally. We highlight that cybersecurity is closely linked to patient safety and operational continuity. Its sensitive patient data remains protected from unauthorized access and potential exploitation.”
Modat worked closely with Health-ISAC to handle the findings responsibly and shares details with affected organizations. The company has also coordinated with Z-Cert, a cybersecurity-enabled group focusing on healthcare in the Netherlands.
