Electronics giant Samsung discussed innovations in robotics and wearable devices as key technologies for delivering personalized care.
In the keynote speech at HIMSS24 APAC, “Smart Hospital Revolution: Redefining patient care through technology,” Dr. Won-chul Cha, CIO of Samsung Medical Center, and Dr. Hong Park, SVP and Head of Digital Health at Samsung Electronics, spoke about technology integration. The importance was discussed. In healthcare.
Dr. Cha likened smart digital systems in hospitals to a human organism hosting integrated circuits and neural networks.
“Our robotic technology is a great example of this. It communicates with information systems in the building that open hospital doors, and it also communicates with medical supply systems that are connected to EMR systems,” he explained.
For example, he said integrated technology makes it easier to identify risks, detect patterns and personalize care.
“Samsung partnered with the University of Iowa to develop a medical recovery model based on a wearable device that could capture a user's resting heart rate, sleep stages, etc. to create an 'energy score' for the user. . Based on your score, it's personalized coaching to help you maximize your health,” Dr. Park added.
Integrated devices can also digitally bridge home users with timely medical interventions.
“An unsuspecting person can be alerted to sleep apnea, which affects cardiovascular risk. Once alerted, we can redirect you to a doctor. “Being able to see a patient's day-to-day situation, such as medical history and blood sugar levels, can make the experience (of personalized care) seamless,” Dr. Park said.
Dr. Cha emphasized that 24-hour health monitoring is also important for emergency decision-making.
“We had an emergency patient complaining of heart palpitations, but at the time they couldn't differentiate between anxiety and other possible symptoms. With a good monitoring system, doctors don't have to ask[patient details]to make the right decision. It won't even work anymore.'' ”
Dr. Park expressed confidence that patients will be able to experience an adaptable digital front door in the coming years, regardless of medical wearables. The feature is that you can instantly check symptoms and measure your health status.
“Healthcare is a team sport. By providing doctors with more intelligent information, we can streamline digital processes, build stronger connections with patients, and improve the patient experience.”
