Openai is all about healthcare AI.

The company has added two new leaders to its burgeoning healthcare AI team. Business Insider Find and hire more researchers and engineers.

Nate Gross, co-founder and former Chief Strategy Director of Healthcare Business Networking Tool Doximity, joined Openai in June and will lead the company's commercial strategy in healthcare, according to Business Insider. One of the team's early goals is to co-create new healthcare technologies with clinicians and researchers.

Openai also hired Ashley Alexander, former co-head of Instagram's products. BI reported on Tuesday that she joined the company as the vice president of the health business product. The spokesman told BI the purpose of Alexander's team.

When Openai increases bets on the healthcare industry, new hires will come.

“Improving human health is one of the critical impacts of AGI (artificial general information),” the company announced in a May press release. Health Benchthe company's new benchmark to assess AI systems capabilities for health.

Meanwhile, there are specialized AI models to help healthcare professionals dig even more holes in the healthcare industry, and people are increasingly relying on ChatGpt to understand their symptoms.

But like almost everything else in AI, the increasing adoption of technology in healthcare does not come without concern.

Openai bet

Openai is far from the first company betting on healthcare AI. It can even be late behind the Palantia, Google, Microsoft has been making progress in this field for several years now. And while the company's push towards healthcare is not necessarily new, it has accelerated significantly over the past few months.

Openai announced a partnership with a Kenya-based primary care provider last month Penda Health A study looking at company AI consulting is a clinician co-pilot with LLM who writes recommendations during patient visits.

Also last month, Openai CEO Sam Altman attended the White House. “Make health technology great again” At the event, President Trump announced his private sector initiative. The initiative will share medical records with Americans through apps and programs through 60 “safe commitments” including Openai. This program uses conversational AI assistants for patient care.

It's being announced about a week later GPT-5Openai focused on the model's healthcare-related capabilities.

“The GPT-5 is our best model for health-related questions,” the company said. press release. “Importantly, ChatGpt is not going to replace healthcare professionals. Think about your partner thinking that will help you understand the outcomes, ask the right questions during your time with your provider, and consider your options according to your decision.”

The company said the new model could “actively flag” potential health concerns, and could adapt the answer to users' “context, knowledge level and geography.” In the example press release, GPT-5 created a six-week rehabilitation plan for high school pitchers with mild UCL strains.

Meanwhile, the new CEO of Openai's application Fidge Simo She said, “I'm most excited about the breakthroughs that AI generates in healthcare.” press release On July 21st, she announced her new role.

Shimo said her belief in the potential of AI in this field comes from her own experience with the health care system after facing “complex and ununderstandable chronic diseases.”

Healthcare in the US in particular could actually be a disruptive area for patients to navigate, and Openai bets that AI will help fix it.

“AI describes the results of the lab, decodes medical terms, provides second opinions, and helps patients understand their options in plain language. It does not replace a doctor, but it can ultimately level the patient's playing field and put them in the driver's seat of their own care,” Shimo wrote in the release.

Healthcare AI: Future or Problem?

Can AI actually revolutionize healthcare? There is good and bad news.

a Stanford Research Since last year, CHATGPT has been shown to be extremely good at medical diagnosis and even better than doctors. Based on these preliminary results, healthcare-specific AI could prove to be a powerful diagnostic aid for healthcare providers.

Some healthcare providers have already begun rolling out the use of professional AI in patient care and diagnosis. Open evidence, healthcare AI startups providing popular AI co-pilots trained in medical research, I insisted Earlier this year, their chatbots are already being used by a quarter of the US doctors

However, there are concerns as adoptions are on the rise.

Some experts say that early testing of AI in healthcare is I don't really feel safesome medical professionals are totally opposed to ChatGpt's medical proposal.

AI failure rates can be overlooked in some areas, but healthcare mistakes are fatal.

“The 20% problematic response is not enough for me to actually daily use in the healthcare system,” he told Stanford Professor of Medicine and Data Science, Roxana Daneschjoh. Washington Post Last year, when I was asked about chatgpt.

Point caseT: A man with no previous medical history ended with ER Psychosis caused by bromide poisoningAfter ChatGpt accidentally advised him to take bromide supplements to reduce his salt intake on the table.

One of the more problematic aspects of AI, which makes false inferences highly problematic in healthcare decisions, concerns our own automation bias. When using AI, no matter how well we are known about the topic, people tend to value model recommendations more than their own beliefs.

This bias becomes even more dangerous due to the fact that AI is essentially a black box. I don't know why or how to reach a conclusion. This makes it difficult to understand where the reasoning was wrong and whether or not the model should be trusted.

So, AI could, or even revolutionise, the health care system, but there's still a lot to deal with before it happens safely.
