Waynesville, N.C. (Fox Carolina) – A former executive manager of a senior assist living facility in western North Carolina has been sentenced to prison under an embezzlement scheme.
Amy Elizabeth Curry worked as an office manager and bookkeeper at Silver Bluff in Canton, but made more than 150 fraudulent bank transfers from the facility's account.
Between December 2022 and April 2023, Curry embezzled at least $1.5 million.
She deleted wire transfer history from Silverbluff's bank account, preventing other employees from receiving notifications about the relocation. She also incorrectly wrote that the transfer was for pay.
In fact, Curry used the funds he embezzled for personal expenses, such as purchasing a pickup truck. She also spent over $700,000 gambling at the casino with her boyfriend.
She pleaded guilty to fraud and was sentenced to 70 months in prison, followed by a supervised release for three years. She was also ordered to repay Silver Bluff with $1.5 million in reparations.
