A registered nurse at a local residential nursing facility was charged on April 16 with a felony warrant alleging that she took medication targeting one of her patients in March.
Owensville police began an investigation on March 11 when a senior Stonebridge official notified of drug theft from residents. Police spoke with witnesses and learned about a registered nurse identified as Kelly Marie Bingaman, prepared to discharge the patient and was the last person to handle the patient's drugs. Police said Bingaman was able to see it in a video of three medications while he returned two cards to the lockbox and left them with another card.
Less than five minutes later, Bingaman was seen returning to the medication room area where he was seen throwing shredded bins and something else in the trash bin.
Witnesses later retrieved the top of the drug card from shredd bins that matched the patient's drug lack. When police interviewed Bingaman about the incident, she said she wanted to talk to her lawyer.
The complaint charged by prosecutor Mary E. Weston alleges that Bingaman stole oxycodone on March 7th. Police in the cause statement that the warrant could have been filed said that Bingaman left a full card in the room containing 30 tablets of controlled narcotics as it was listed on the warrant application.
Last week, a felony warrant was issued claiming Bingaman had stolen a controlled substance. $10,000 in cash or guaranteed bonds were requested. She looked back at herself, posted the bonds and was released up to the court date. The facility's police report said it “self-terminated” the employment after missing two days in a row without making a call.
As of Tuesday afternoon, there was no scheduled court appearance for her.
