Norton Healthcare unveils new monument honoring early medical pioneers in Louisville
October and March. A new memorial in West Louisville honors those who dedicated their lives to providing health care to those less fortunate. Norton Healthcare has unveiled a new memorial at the Goodwill Opportunity Campus at the corner of 28th and Garland Streets downtown. As staff prepares to open Norton West Louisville Hospital, it will be the first new hospital west of Ninth Avenue in 150 years. The memorial was funded by the family of Dr. Richard Wolfe through the Norton Children's Hospital Foundation, and is dedicated to providing life-saving medical care in areas without access to hospitals and care during the era of legal segregation. It honors the pioneers of People of color. We recognize the tremendous sacrifices they make to provide health care. We want to respect this as a gateway to this facility and provide a different level of trust, a different level of access, a different level of service to the entire community. Following today's announcement, Norton hosted a community block party to provide resources and services
