EAGAN, Minn. — Nursing home workers in Minnesota are seeking solutions to staffing problems.
On Friday, SEIU Healthcare union members from Minnesota and Iowa gathered in front of the Monarch Nursing Home headquarters in Eagan.
Workers there said they felt overworked and understaffed.
“We've been going back and forth with Monarch for a long time because there's a lack of staff and there's a lot of discrimination,” said Rasha Ahmadsharif, executive vice president of SEIU Healthcare Minnesota-Iowa. ” he said. “They don't understand what their workers, their workers are suffering from, and that they actually need union representatives to be in constant dialogue with leadership and human resources. .”
Mark Halpert, Monarch's CEO, said Monarch also helped push legislation to get lawmakers to provide additional funding and improve wages.
“Unfortunately, these previous efforts have been opposed by organized labor,” Halpert said. “We welcome SEIU to this end and look forward to working with them to secure these funds during this Congress.”
