Eagle Lake, Maine (WAGM) – Mercy Home, a long-term care and residential care facility in Eagle Lake, is expected to close its doors on April 30, 2025.
In a letter sent to residents, families and employees, the Northern Maine general said the decision was due to a shortage of personnel.
“This decision comes after assessing the continued lack of staffing and the inability to hire a mandatory number of certified nurses and certified nurse AIDS, and depends on contract labor.” said the letter signed by CEO Michelle Raymond.
The letter says the Mercy team will work closely with the families to ensure a smooth relocation to other facilities.
“To facilitate the transition, Mercy Home Management will help residents and their families find alternative options and ensure that residents are safely moved to new providers along with their medical records,” the letter said. .
The facility has served Eagle Lake and the surrounding communities for 50 years. Over the past four years, Mercy Home has added self-imposed caps to 30 people rather than 40 people with nursing bed capacity.
In the letter, Raymond added that the Northern Maine general reached out to the governor's office and worked with the Department of Health and Human Services to seek additional financial support.
“Mercy Home has received additional supplemental funds, but it was no longer sufficient to support its business,” writes Raymond.
Residents and families with questions were encouraged to contact Mercy Homes administrators.
