LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) – An employee at a Longview nursing home was arrested after police said they tied the resident to a bed with leggings.

Simone Monique Burns, 34, of Longview, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of illegal detention. Arrest affidavit KLTV, requested in Greg County, says Burns is believed to have left a woman tied up in bed for about five hours.

The document says the investigation began after a 55-year-old resident was tied up with a pair of black leggings by the Dayhift Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA) at the Whisper Pines Lodge Nursing Home on Alpine Road at around 8:15am on March 6. Residents have been diagnosed with Huntington's disease, schizoaffective disorder, and anxiety disorder. Documents say she is unable to move safely herself and has a history of falling.

After the woman was found, it was discovered that Burns had been working overnight as a CNA, and when the investigation was opened by Longview PD on March 11, she was later questioned. It is reported that she has said she has restrained the woman to prevent her from falling.

Following an interview with Barnes with Longview police officers, a warrant for arrest was signed on March 18th. She was booked at the Greg County Jail on March 20th, carrying $40,000 on detention charges. She remains booked as of Wednesday.

Barnes is being held on three Nacodoches County warrants in addition to the Greg County charges, according to court records. These are the crimes of possession of marijuana, illegally carrying weapons, and failing to jump/appear on bail.

KLTV reached out to Pines Lodge to whisper for a statement. Burns' employment status at the facility is unknown at the time of publication.
