Honolulu (Hawaiinewsnow) – This year marks the 75th anniversary of Hawaii's first long-term care facility for Kupuna and veterans.
On Tuesday, Maunarani Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre hosted his son, Ukulele Vitoso Jake Shimabukuro and his brother.
The nonprofit has begun celebrating its anniversary at a weekly event in January.
The nonprofit organization said Shimizu Village was Maunarani's first volunteer performer 15 years ago.
Shimajima was the first to take office as the Centre's first friend of Maunarani, according to the nonprofit.
“It's a truly special place and you can just feel passion and love,” Shimamura said. “I mean, all the staff here, they just love what they're doing, they just love these residents.”
Maunarani opened in January 1950 at Will Heminalize.
