MILWAUKEE — A local technology startup has developed a way to streamline health care in developing countries.
More than a decade ago, Codebaby founder Norrie Daroga envisioned using avatars to bridge the communication and information gap.
Ms. Daroga partnered with Father Bill Johnson, who has been traveling to the Dominican Republic for the past 25 years. He knows firsthand how little access to health care can be for local residents, who must travel miles through rugged terrain to receive treatment.

To deal with this health crisis, Father Bill is piloting the Code Baby health avatar. It is located close to people's homes, allowing patients to visit their avatars without having to travel long distances. The avatars screen patients by asking specific questions and essentially interacting with them about their health and illness.
Daroga said the technology is evolving almost daily. He expects Avatar to be used in healthcare, sports venues, airports, schools and even museums.
