COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — More than 200 decorated pumpkins arrived at Riverview Rehabilitation Center after a local school wanted to make a difference.
Father John V. Doyle School students visited the nursing home on Tuesday and handed out all 225 painted pumpkins to the residents.
“It was a truly unforgettable experience to see students interact with residents, listen to their stories, shake hands, and take the time to make their time belong to others. ,” said Dean John V. Doyle. students, Stacey Gillard said. “Words cannot express how proud I am of them.”
Father John V. Doyle School decided to paint pumpkins after seeing a Facebook post from a nursing home a few towns away asking for pumpkin carving.
Because carving pumpkins can be difficult for younger students, the school decided that students could paint the pumpkins instead.
On Friday, the entire school, from preschool to eighth grade, spent an hour and a half painting donated pumpkins.
