The California Department of Treasury has cleared a $3.444 billion loan to compensate for the Medi-Cal spending gap. Critics say it is due to medical expenses for illegal immigrants, but the governor's office argues that it's not normal.
A few weeks ago, it was revealed that the state's Medi-Cal projected cost is $6 billion, but now it's around $9.5 billion. This comes after it became state law to allow people to qualify for the program regardless of their immigration status. According to the state government's website, Medi-Cal is a state Medicaid system for residents of certain Golden State, requiring both federal and state taxpayers.
Critics who allow the program to be available to people in the country are illegally strongly believe that it is the source of concern.

“Gov. Gavin Newsom lies and cooks books, gives free medical care for all illegal immigrants, and is currently cramming California taxpayers with a multi-billion dollar bill,” R-San Diego Rep. Carl Demaio told Fox News Digital in a statement.
“This is so bad that he needs to resign,” he continued.
DeMaio was a lawmaker who ultimately revealed to state budget officials at a hearing last month that he was spending more healthcare. Demaio was later removed from the California Legislature Budget Committee.

But the office of Democrats' government, Gavin Newsom, said it is not the only state facing spending issues with state-based healthcare programs such as Pennsylvania, Colorado and Indiana.
“This is nothing new. As the government has already outlined in the governor's January budget proposal, additional funds are needed to support Medi-Cal,” governor spokesman Izzy Gardon told Fox News Digital in a statement.

“Rising Medicaid costs is a national challenge and affects both red and blue conditions. This is not inherent in California.”
