Become agile and listen to the clinicians
After Wolf, Dr. Sunwoopark, president and CEO of Samsung Medical Center, became a filmless hospital in 1996 and in 2003, he discussed the history and growth of the health system to create a Darwin that symbolizes the data analysis and research window for integrated knowledge.
The journey to becoming an advanced healthcare organization that gained multiple recognitions from HIMSS has not been easy. In a conversation with Wolf and Dr. Meong Hi Son, Chief Medical Information Officer at Samsung Medical Center, Park explained how the previous EHR system did not match the organization's vision to create truly intelligent hospitals.
“The first version of Darwin failed completely,” Park said. “In the beginning, I bit more than I could bite. I wanted to perfect it all at once, so I failed.”
Park said organizations are taking a more agile approach, focusing on building key features first and then gradually adding more features.
This time, Darwin worked to create a robust system with a flexible user experience, including ongoing collaboration with clinicians. My son added:

She said that using clinicians to create next-generation systems focuses on improving workflows as well as fostering a professional heritage that helps them feel more respected and relevant to their work.
My son, who is also a pediatrician, introduced two robots, named Nova and Lumi. They are used in pediatric care through remote guidance or enhanced AI.
When Wolf asked about his expectations for the future of healthcare, Park said that AI is changing the way care is delivered. He highlighted the Samsung Medical Center database operation and communications center as an integrated AI system that helps streamline operations to save patients' time.
“To date, the main focus of AI was predicting prognosis or diagnosis, which allowed us to improve patient outcomes,” my son added. “This remains very important, but we are now witnessing a major shift in AI, where we can understand the processes and interactions between clinicians and patients linguistically. We envision a future in which AI becomes an agent. The meaning of agents may change, but the clear value comes from actively supporting patients through their journey in a personalized and adaptive way.”
