The Group of Ministers (GoM) is likely to recommend exemption from Goods and Services Tax (GST) on term life insurance premiums and health insurance premiums paid by senior citizens. In a recent meeting, the Government of India decided to exempt health insurance coverage for individuals (excluding senior citizens) from GST up to Rs 500,000, but premiums above this threshold will continue to be subject to 18%. GST will be charged. Currently, life insurance premiums are also subject to 18% GST.
