MADISON (WKOW) – A Hartford man who owned a home nursing company in Monroe has been sentenced to several years in prison for stealing money from an employee's 401(k) account.

According to a press release from the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ), Shone Bagley, 54, has been sentenced to three years of initial confinement and five years of extended supervision.

Bagley acquired Caring Hearts, a home nursing company, in April 2018. Shortly after purchase, DOJ says Bagley created another business entity and transferred the total employee 401(k) funds. On an account for $54,861.77.

According to the DOJ, Bagley later said he used the money on personal expenses for purchases at coffee shops, restaurants and gas stations. Bagley also used the money to cover business expenses, including employee salaries.

Bagley was charged with theft in Waukesha County as a duties, business or trustee. He was convicted in December 2024 at the Ju trial.

“The defendant in this case abused his authority and stole employee retirement savings,” Attorney General Josh Cowl said in a statement. “We would like to thank the team for securing a conviction and sentence that will hold the accused accountable for his actions.”

Bagley was ordered to pay the victim full compensation. After being released from prison, he is unable to contact the victim, and must maintain full-time employment and complete community service, among other conditions ordered by the court.
