Founded in San Diego, Halo relocated to Nashville in 2019. The expansion announcement came from Tennessee’s Department of Economic and Community Development, which encourages business expansion in the state.
Ophthalmic pharmaceutical company Halo will invest $3 million in Nashville to expand its headquarters, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development announced Wednesday.
Halo has been based in Nashville since 2019 and plans to add 147 jobs in the area with the expansion. The company was founded in San Diego, California in 2012.
Speakers at the launch event, held at Harrow’s Green Hills offices, touted Nashville’s appeal to businesses, particularly in the health care sector.
“Nashville has the potential to become the medical capital of the United States, and this company’s continued investment brings us one step closer to achieving that,” said ECD Commissioner Stuart McWhorter.
TNECD has supported 38 economic development projects in Davidson County since 2020, resulting in the creation of approximately 14,000 jobs and more than $1.7 billion in capital investment. The nature of the department’s incentive package for the Harrow County expansion is unclear.
Halo CEO Mark Baum said the company plans to continue expanding its corporate presence in Nashville.
“We’ve been blown away by the warmth of Tennessee,” Baum said. “We love this community and we’re happy to be here.”
Nashville has become an attractive location for businesses to relocate or expand thanks to the presence of companies such as Amazon and AllianceBernstein, and the healthcare industry in particular has established a foothold in the region, led by major HCA Healthcare.
The city also boasts one of the strongest job markets in the country when it comes to growth and unemployment rates.
“Tennessee has one of the fastest growing economies in the nation thanks to companies like Halo choosing to relocate and expand their operations in our state,” Gov. Bill Lee said in a news release about the announcement. “I look forward to seeing how these approximately 150 jobs will positively impact the skilled workforce in Nashville and Davidson County. I congratulate Halo on their win.”
