FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A Flagler County home health aide is accused of stealing cash and debit cards from the elderly people she cared for, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Katie Swain, 32, was arrested on Dec. 31 after a month-long investigation.
A senior resident of Harbor Chase in Palm Coast reported that his wallet containing cash and debit cards was missing, according to sheriff's officials. Police determined Swain, a new employee, was responsible for caring for the victim on the day the items went missing.

The sheriff's office said the fraudulent transactions took place in Putnam County, near Swain's residence. Officers said she used the victim's card to buy gas, snacks and groceries and shopped online.
“The store's security camera footage showed Swain making dozens of purchases using the victim's stolen ATM card. In total, Swain made $664.02 in fraudulent transactions on the victim's ATM card and stole $30 in cash,” the sheriff's office said.
Swain is charged with fraudulent use of personal identification information and grand theft from a person over the age of 65.
“This woman abused her trust and authority as a home health aide to purchase gas, donuts, and trinkets,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staley said in a statement.
Swain was taken to Perry Hall Sheriff Detention Center and later released on $10,000 bail.
