(InvestigatetV) – Nursing facilities are designed to provide professional, everyday care to some of the most vulnerable families.

That level of care can include everything from bathing to dressing to medication management.

Over a million people are cared for in U.S. nursing homes each year, but this important part of our health care system faces a significant shortage of workers.

A recent report by the American Medical Association found that 77% of facilities face staffing challenges. This has led the US government to implement the biggest changes to federal nursing home regulations in 30 years.

Advocates say the new minimum staffing standards can significantly improve care and safety in nursing homes.

However, this move is not without controversy.

The long-term care industry says facilities cannot meet what one group calls impossible missions.

InvestigatetV+ looks at the plan in detail aimed at solving the shortage.
