Wheelchair race residents were found again with drugs and reported theft

Two nursing home residents were called back to the facility on Monday, March 17th, just days after being accused of smoking marijuana and racing wheelchairs in Bohlin's health and rehabilitation parking lot.

Administrator Jason Gerald told Sgt., according to a report from the Monroe County Sheriff. John Thompson was complained that Ronald Smith, one of the men involved in the wheelchair race, was apparently trapped in his room with marijuana and cocaine. Gerald says he told Smith about drugs, and Smith admitted to having marijuana in a safe trapped in his room, but is allegedly denied that he had cocaine.

Gerald says Smith opened the safe and showed him that he only had marijuana in the safe and that he locked it up and wouldn't open it again. After that, Gerald took the safe and put it in his office.

Smith told Thompson that he lost both legs in a vehicle accident and is currently rehabilitating Stage 4 bedsauce. Smith stated that he was honest with Gerald and told him that he had marijuana and that someone was coming to get marijuana. Smith said he knows his rights and doesn't need to open the safe again.

The adjutant told Smith that he could open the safe and hand over the marijuana, or that he could retrieve the money to the sheriff's office, apply for a search warrant, and cut the safe opening. Smith then said he would open the safe and handed over the marijuana to the sergeant.

Thompson told Smith that Bolin Green has a drug ban policy. He added that it is up to the manager to decide which actions will be taken against him.

Thompson confiscated 26 grams of weed.

Sheriff Brad Freeman said it was a difficult call to see if it would result in criminal charges.

“The man in a nursing home,” Freeman said. “Is the citizen trying to pay him to be held in prison?”

Then, on April 6th, Bolin Green employee Carita Moore told her that resident Sandra Zwelly told her that a certified nurse assistant had come to her room and told her she had stolen $80 from her wallet.

Zweily told Billinglea that she saw a woman take money from a wallet inside her purse at the foot of her bed. She was unable to provide an accurate description of the suspect.
