According to Altarum's monthly medical sector economic indicators, expenditures for home medical care have increased 24.8 % in the past 18 months, more than twice as much as personal medical expenses.

Expenditure for nursing home care was the second most rapidly grown in the major healthcare category. Expenditures for nursing home care increased 13.4 % during the same period, 11.4 % below home medical care.

According to the report, national medical expenses increased by 7.2 % until November 2024.

“Among the major expenditures categories, the annual growth until November 2024 was the largest in home medical care, and it was 10.1 %,” said Altarum Fellow, George Miller, a senior researcher, told McKnight's Business Daily. 。

Medical expenses in December were 2.7 % higher than December 2023. Hospital care increased by 3.3 % and dental services increased by 3 % over the previous year. The prescription drug price was the slowest growth at 1.1 %.

“Inflation in the entire economy increased, the year -on -year of consumer price index overall increased by 0.2 % to 2.9 %, and the growth of the producer price index increased by 0.3 % and increased by 3.3 %. The recent overtaking of general inflation to the medical price index is expanded. “

Medical employment

Healthcare employment decreased from the employment of 46,100 people in December in November 53,600. Meanwhile, from the growth of 173,400 occupations in November, it increased by 209,900 employment in December.

The growth of healthcare employment in December was led by an outpatient medical service that Miller included home medical care. Approximately 20,600 employments have been added to the walking healthcare service area, with 14,000 employment of nursing and housing facilities. The hospital has added 11,500 employment.

“While employment in nursing and housing nursing care facilities is growing, it is 1 % below the peak before the pandemic in February 2020,” Miller said.

Wage growth

In November, wages of the healthcare industry were 4 % year -on -year. This includes 4 % of wages of nursing and housing care facilities and 3.6 % of foreign medical services. Hospital growth.

Altarum's monthly HSEI briefs analyze the latest data on expenditures, prices, employment, and use of health sector. The support for work is provided by a subsidy from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
