Employers and narrow networks may promote cost-effective patient outcomes

Luke Hansen, MHS and MHS, chief medical officer at Arcadia, a medical data analytics company, said health care reform is not easy, especially when it comes to stronger incentives for value-based care.

Luke Hansen, MD, MHS

“Many people in their 40s, 50s and 60s have chronic illnesses insured. Employers hold bags and employers are responsible for the trustees who manage their lives optimally,” Hansen said. “We don't think we've fully utilized the opportunity. If we have a sufficient cohort of employers, they can move the industry and delegate it to a high-performance provider organization through a narrow network.”

He continued to explain that change requires risk.

“We need to take some risks in our constituency,” Hansen said in a video interview with managed healthcare executives. “I think it starts with attribution and responsibility for costs, which doesn't exist for the majority of people who manage healthcare.”
