At a time when many retail pharmacies are rethinking their strategies and cutting down their primary care services delivery, Emory Healthcare Network and CVS Health are curtailing that trend in Georgia.
Emory is expanding its relationship with CVS' MinuteClinics in 35 locations. The partnership, which began in 2011, is evolving to provide more primary and preventative care options throughout the Atlanta Metro area provided by Emory Healthcare. It is part of Emory's ongoing push to expand access to Emory's primary care and find meaningful ways to address the shortage of key providers, says Emory Healthcare leaders.
MinuteClinic Primary Care patients have access to the Emory Healthcare Network's extensive resources, including hospitals, specialists, diagnostic and radiology facilities, and specialized labs, allowing patients to receive additional care when needed.
From the beginning of their relationship, Emory and MinuteClinic have worked together to provide walk-in adult wellness exams and physical and illness visits at various MinuteClinic locations. MinuteClinic nurse practitioners and other advanced practice providers Staff Clinic and Emory Physians provide same-day visits, evening and weekend hours and weekend services, providing virtual services that make care more convenient.
Minuteclinics is primarily useful for young and healthy patients, and the expectations regarding interaction with the health care system are unique, so having Minuteclinic as a network option will expand your primary care reach.
Also, both Emory and Minuteclinics use Epic Electronic Health Records, so it's easier to maintain a complete care team that will fall behind when meeting patients. CVS has also introduced training and new workflows to MinuteClinic staff to focus on preventive care services such as health maintenance visits, screening and chronic disease management.
