FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Munson Army Health Center Director Col. Jolanda L.J. Walker visited St. John's Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan., Nov. 4 to meet with medical administrators and communicate with TRICARE network partners. promoted.

TRICARE is a uniform medical services program for active duty military personnel and their eligible family members. TRICARE is also available to veterans and eligible family members who pay an annual enrollment fee.

Depending on location and service, TRICARE “beneficiaries” can receive care from military hospitals and clinics, from posts with civilian civilian networks, or from posts with TRICARE-certified non-network providers.

“Munson cares for more than 13,000 TRICARE beneficiaries, providing core services through primary care practices and ancillary services such as laboratory, radiology and pharmacy,” Walker said. “When our beneficiaries require more specialized care, such as obstetrics, cardiology, inpatient care or emergency care, we are fortunate to have network partners such as St. You can rely on us to fulfill our mission.”

The team, accompanied by Munson's chief medical officer and physician Lt. Col. Reginald Trevino, met with St. John Hospital administrator and chief nursing officer Billy Leonard, physician liaison Mindy Kruska, and others. .

“It was very eye-opening. I learned about services I didn't even know were offered,” Trevino said.

Walker's top priorities include improving access to care, preparedness and fiscal responsibility, as well as increasing community engagement both on and off the post.

“It's really important to establish those relationships and communications at all levels. We need to look closely and make sure our management processes are efficient,” Walker said.

Military healthcare is in a period of transformation, and with the new TRICARE contract signed in January 2025, the integration of the TRICARE civilian provider network with military hospitals and clinics is more important than ever.

Mr. Walker is planning further visits to Leavenworth and surrounding areas with additional TRICARE network partners in the coming weeks.
